On April 8, 2024, the Research Training Group Water-People-Agriculture at the University of Hohenheim held a colloquium on World Water Day with a focus on water for peace. Janina Moschner was able to complement the international perspectives on – sometimes very acute – conflicts in water-scarce regions (Middle East, MENA) with an anticipatory and locally anchored perspective in Germany. Although the claim “water for peace” is very ambitious, the relevance of a systemic view of water-related areas of conflict and the need to focus on cooperative measures in order to keep the resource accessible and usable for all in the long term was evident in all contributions.
