Master’s thesis on water conflicts in large-scale projects, using mining as an example, successfully completed

On 06 March 2023, Fabian Hölzlberger successfully defended his Master’s thesis in Module C water conflicts in the mining sector. The aim of the thesis was to identify the stakeholder groups involved as well as their perception of water conflicts and future development opportunities. Methodically, the social analysis CLIP and semi-structured interviews were used, the economic perspective was illuminated with the help of the Coase Theorem. In total, over 20 different stakeholder groups involved and affected were identified. It was found that perceptions of water conflicts vary widely. This work marks the starting point for the intended CIB analysis, further interviews are needed to fully capture the perspectives of the stakeholder groups.
