On October 6, 2025, the scenario workshop for the ICAWaR project (“Integrated Climate Adaptation of Water Management in the Region”, coordinated by Prof. Melanie Nagel and Prof. Kira Rehfeld, Universität Tübingen) took place at the University’s Geo and Environmental Research Center in Tübingen. The meeting brought together experts from the natural and social sciences, administration, and practice from the region to jointly develop possible future scenarios for regional water supply under the conditions of climate change. Dr. Hannah Kosow from the ZuWaKo project gave a keynote speech and introduced the methodology of qualitative scenario analysis, then accompanied the subsequent group work as a mentor. The aim of the workshop was to identify key influencing factors (“descriptors”) for future water supply and to discuss possible alternative developments of these factors up to the year 2070. In intensive group phases, the participants developed the first building blocks for the upcoming cross-impact balance analysis (CIB), which will be used to derive consistent scenarios for the water supply in the Ammerbuch-Gäu region as the project progresses. The results of the workshop thus form an important basis for the next phase of the ICAWaR project. The exchange between ICAWaR and ZuWaKo highlighted the added value of the collaboration between the two projects: while ICAWaR develops concrete regional scenarios, ZuWaKo contributes methodological expertise and Germany-wide context scenarios to the process
